Deze leverden wanneer ze ontwaterd werden namelijk uitstekende weide- en graslanden op. Wel moesten deze streken, voordat ze als grasland gebruikt konden worden, ontdaan moeten worden van het welige struikgewas en de opgaande bomen waarmee ze bedekt waren.
